Tracks my progress through my projects, as well as the occasional related link.

I have yet to be able to play more than 5 or 10 minutes on beta three. I've tried 10 different games with different driver configs and monitor settings, and every time it crashes within a few minutes of starting a game. This was working flawlessly on the same hardware and driverset under all earlier betas.

Now, hard crashes randomly occur after a few minutes. Symptoms are the monitor turns a flat color, sound is skipping and repeating, and the computer is totally unresponsive, requiring a power off/power on cycle. Even hitting the reset doesn't work, as the graphics card remains in the crashed/stuck/displaying one solid color state after the reboot.

Setup:

  • Core i7 920
  • MSI x58 Platinum
  • Vista x64
  • XFX Geforce GTX 260 (1st monitor (running game), 2nd monitor)
  • Geforce 7200 GS (3rd monitor)

I've tried several different graphics driver versions, including the latest (182.16, 16 Feb), with no results. I've also tried disabling the secondary graphics card (haven't actually physically removed it), and turning off all but the primary monitor, all to no avail.

UPDATE: removed the 7200 GS, so it is definetly not that.

UPDATE 2: Tested with several graphics drivers between the latest and the windows update driver (7 Oct). No dice on any of them. Enough free beta testing for one day.

If issues persist after a reboot, then it sounds like you've definitely got some sort of hardware issue.

Not a hardware issue, just a hard, hard crash, hard enough where the card needs to be power cycled. Every other game works on this rig, totally solid no problems, and Demigod worked fine with these settings in all earlier betas. Do you guys have a 260 there to test on? I turned off AA and that made the crashes much less frequent, but still happen. Turned all graphics settings to lowest and haven't had a crash since.
